Penguin from the concrete jungle

My friend Nicole and I spotted this penguin drawn on the sidewalk near a community college in Hillsboro, Oregon last summer. This was the only image on the sidewalk; we had no idea what the occasion could have been. In this picture, it almost looks like a cave painting.

A compelling reason to eat anything

FOUND: The best reason in the world to eat absolutely anything! This bit is too funny not to make an appearance--it is on a menu from a lovely restaurant on the way to Mt. St. Helens in Washington. We saw this last summer, and still laugh about it.

Alien rock!

We discovered this fantastic nugget on the sand dunes of Oregon about two years ago. It literally is not like any rock I have seen before, and this from an avid rock collector! As you can see, it resembles a chunk of Swiss cheese. It is one of my favorites! We have yet to uncover its secrets; for a time, I was convinced there were little beings (alien or not) living inside, which is why it now resides in a plastic baggie in an airtight container. Don't judge me.
